Adoor, Lal and Priyanka selected the best

World renowned filmmaker from Malayalam, Adoor Gopalakrishnan's new movie, ‘Oru Pennun Randu Annum’ was named the best in this years Kerala state Film awards, winning five major awards in different sections. The awards for the movie includes those for the best film, best director and best screenplay.
Producer-Director-turned actor Lal bagged his first best actor award for his performance in the film ‘Thalapavu’ directed by Madhupal. The movie also won the best debutant director award. Director TV Chandran’s film Vilapangalkkuappuram (Beyond the Cries) was selected as the second best film while young actress Priyanka(Veyyil fame) won best actress award for her poignant performance in this film. While Praveena won the second best actress for her role in Adoor’s film ‘Oru Pennu Randu Annum’, Anoop Menon was selected the second best actor for the role of a super star in the movie ‘Thirakkatha’.
Mamukoya became the first actor to win the newly instituted award for best comedian, for his performance in ‘Innathe Chinthaa Vishayam’. The movie was also selected as the best film with popular appeal and aesthetic value.
The Kerala State Film Awards 2008 were announced by Minister for Cultural Affairs MA Baby, yesterday at the capital city. Noted Kannada film director Girish Kasaravalli was the chairman of this year's awards Jury.

Kerala State Film Awards announced
The 2008 Kerala State Film Awards were announced in Thiruvananthapuram. State Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby announced the awards at a press meet along with Jury Chairman Girish Kasaravalli.
A total of 27 films were considered for the awards. Orupennum Randanum, a film based on four short stories of famous writer Thakazhi, produced and directed by well-known film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, was adjudged as the best feature film.
Lal got the best actor award for his role as a policeman in Thalapavu, a film based on naxalites and Priyanka is the Best Actress for her role in Vilapangalkapuram, a film about a girl's sufferings at the hands of religious extremists.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan also got the best director and script writer awards for the same film. Bhoomimalayalam directed by T.V. Chandran bagged the award for second best film.
Shanker Mahadevan was selected as best playback singer for his song in Madambi, while Manjeri got the best playback singer (female) award. Aryadan Shoukat was selected as best story writer for his work in Vilapangalkapuram.
Best lyricist was O.N.V. Kurup and best music director is M. Jayachandran (Madambi) The other important winners are: Best Comedian : Mamukooya (Innathe chinthavishayam), Best Child Artist: Nivetha Thomas (Veruthe Oru Bharya), Best Story Writer: Aryadan Shoukath (Vilapangalkkapuram), Best Cinemotographer: M J Radhakrishnan (Bioscopte).
