Who is the best actor in Malayalam?

Let us have some analysis.

Mammootty (born Pannaparambil Muhammad Kutty on September 7, 1953 [1]) is an award winning Indian film actor and producer. During a career spanning more than quarter of a century, he has acted in more than 300 films as the lead actor in Malayalam movies, a distinction he shares with Prem Nazir.[2] Mammootty is considered by many critics to be one of the finest actors in Indian cinema who excels in both art and commercial films.[3]

Mammootty received many major awards for his performance. These include three National awards, four State awards and eight Filmfare Awards in the best actor category. He is the only actor apart from Kamal Haasan to win National Film Award for Best Actor three times. In 1998, the Government of India honored him with Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema and the University of Kerala honored him by giving honorary Doctorate in 2008.

Mammootty is also the Chairman of Malayalam Communications, which runs popular Malayalam TV channels like Kairali TV, People TV and We TV.[4] After a survey among its readers, Vanitha magazine selected Mammootty as the actor with the most sex appeal.[5] Mammootty has promoted humanitarian causes throughout Kerala, and he is the Goodwill Ambassador of the Akshaya project.[6] He owned a production company during the 1980s, Casino, along with I.V. Sasi, Seema, Mohanlal, and Century Kochumon. The production house produced commercially successful films such as Nadodikkattu, Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street, Adiyozhukkukal and Karimpin Poovinakkare.

Mohanlal Vishwanathan Nair (Malayalam: മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ വിശ്വനാഥന്‍ നായര്‍) (born May 21, 1960[1]), commonly known as Mohanlal or Lal, is an Indian film actor and producer, who works mainly in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal is considered by many critics to be one of the finest actors in Indian cinema who excels in both art and commercial films. Mohanlal received many major awards for his performance. These includes one international award, four National awards, ten State awards,ten Filmfare Awards, and hundreds of other awards in the best actor category. A four-time National Award winner, Lal is famous for his versatility and natural acting and he is only actor in india who can do comedy, serios, sentimental, dance, martial arts, etc at a time in his films. style[2]. Mohanlal is best known for his movie roles of the late 80s and early 90s. His most notable roles include Solomon in Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal, Dasan in Nadodikkattu, Jayakrishnan in Thoovanathumbikal, Vishnu in Chithram, Sethu Madhavan in Kireedam, Gopi in Bharatham, Mangalassery Neelakandan in Devasuram, Anand in Iruvar, Kunhikuttan in Vanaprastham, and Thomas "Aadu Thoma" Chacko in Spadikam.

Mohanlal is a high talented versatile energetic actor. He can do any role with ease. He has got great supporters and fans in Kerala. Without any doubt, we can say Mohanlal is one of the top actors in Malayalam cinema today. What are all his capacities? He can do any role effortlessly. He is very good in Comedy (Nadodikaattu, Pattana Pravesham, San manassullavarkku samaadanam, Vellanakalude Nadu, Yodha, kkilkum, Chitram-Which is not a comedy movie but a classic, Boeing Boeing, Then Mavin Kombathu, Thalavattam). Most of his comedy movies are classics as well. He is very good in action movies also (Rajavinte Makan, Manthrikam, Spadikam, Keerthi Chakra). He has got some classics such as Chitram, Devasuram, Aaram Thampuran, His Highness Abdullah, Bharatham, Kireedam, Udayananu Tharam, Vanaprastham, Iruvar).

They both faces many criticisms

Mohanlal is not so handsome and does not have the looks of a chocolate actor as in the bollywood movies. But he won the hearts of keralites only because of his talents.

Now about Mammootty! Many are having the opinion that Mammootty is not a born actor. He developed his own style of acting.

Analyzing his talents; How can an actor shine as a superstar for 30 years if he is not good in all these essential things .So definitely he must have some capabilities which others do not have.

Fighting - Of course Mohan Lal. In some movies Mammootty also did good fighting scenes. But still Mohan Lal is good.

Again, Both Mammootty and Mohanlal are versatile actors. Actually there is no point in comparing them. Both of them have already proved that they are the best.

One thing that sets Mammootty apart from his contemporaries is the fact that from the beginning itself, he has been able to treat both art-house cinema and commercial potboilers with ease. He made his mark during the early period of his career itself by enacting roles in films of stalwarts like M. T. Vasudevan Nair, K.G. George, Padmarajan, P.N. Menon, and Bharathan. Later on his talent was utilised by internationally renowned directors like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, T. V. Chandran, and Pavithran. He was a regular in movies of Harikumar, Mohan, etc. The movies by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and Padmarajan, arguably among the best of Malayalam writer-directors, widened Mammootty's acting horizon. It may be mentioned that two of M.T. Vasudevan's movies which bear his autobiographical elements were enacted by Mammootty - Aksharangal (I.V. Sasi) and Sukrutham (Harikumar).

Mohanlal may have flexibility in dancing, running and in Summer S*violation*violation*violationing scenes. But the real flexibility according to Lohithadas is the ability to change from one character to another. And for him Mammotty is the most flexible actor in the industry. I.e. From a fisher man to district collector, from a police officer to a Pandi Murukan, From an advocate to a person who searches for shit (In Ponthanmada), From a Glamorous Photographer (Aparichithan) to a Mentally retarded person (Soorya Manasam). He is the real actor. He is the star.

Though he has been criticized as unable to portray comic roles, his latest movies Rajamanikyam, Thommanum Makkalum, and Thuruppugulan gave a fitting reply to critics. Mammootty, though a hugely popular star, is an exception in Indian films where dancing skills have to be a necessary part of an actor's repertoire. But the emotion and the depth that he lends to his characters makes him a well revered actor and makes up for his shortcomings.

Mammootty is the only second star after Prem Nazir to complete more than 300 films as the hero in Malayalam. Mammootty reached this feat as he completed his latest film with Aashiq Abu titled Daddy Cool. Mammootty also holds the rare distinction of appearing as hero in an astonishing 35 movies released in a single year, 1986, a feat exceeded only by Prem Nazir who acted in 39 movies as hero released during 1979. "Mathilukal has been shown in almost 40 international film festivals beginning with Venice. Among my films, it is Mathilukal which has invited the maximum number of international honours. The sincere co-operation by Mammootty, the actor has played a major role in the success of the movie" - Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

For foreigners all our stars are useless (In terms of physical appearance). Here Mammooty and Suresh Gopi are exceptional cases. Acting wise Mohanlal is a Genius, Look wise Suresh Gopi can compete anyone from other movie industries.
BUT LOOKWISE, SOUNDWISE, ACTING WISE …NO DOUBT MAMMOOTTY IS THE BEST AMONG ALL THE STARS. HE IS AN ASSET TO ALL KERALITES. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF HIM.

One thing you said is true.We can't compare mission 90 days with keerthichakra.But can you say is there any subjuct matter in keerthichakra? M90D is based on real story that everyone knows. It can't be changed. One who see that film can't digest its climax. But it can't be changed. Those who watch both movies can realise one thing. ie about the dialogue delivery and body language of both BIG M's. Everybody knews who can delivery better dialogues in hindi n english. Can you imagine a military officer with such a fatty body? Keerthichakra is superhit n M90D is flop. Everybody know that. Keerthichakra became a hit because its for the first time such a war film is made in India. Its a new experience to all.After that same director do 2 films M90D n kurukshetra.Both r flops.After these Major Ravi announce a new film with Lal. But after Krushetra become flop, he withdraw from that military film n now doing a horror film with Prithvi.

in my opinion, what mohanlal and mammoooty are doing now is destroying the industry. They have made great movies. But now they are preventing new talents. Only thing that malayalee watches is a superstar movie. What will happen to our industry after des guys r so old to act??

we should encourage new face for our film culture to survive....and mammoooty and lal should limit their movies to few good characters suiting their age

before releasing kurushetra ,the producer santhosh damodaran had financial problems with theatres-that happened due to chandrolsavam.he thought that he could makeup with this kurushetra- but what happened ,again a flop .

Kurukshethra is a great attempt showing the kargil war. Not a great film. Its like a doccumentry. Also its a flop due to heavy production cost and also due to release of 20-20
